  1. hiya Amy,

I spotted your reply to Claudia’s trio of pasta dishes. Tommy Lazzaro was born and raised in Audubon, NJ. Yes he is the real deal. But if I am not mistaken, you seem to live in or near Bergen County? Yes? If so, you have the luxury of Corrado’s Family Affair right down the road. Now *thats* Italian. Meanwhile, Tommy is still trying to find a good supplier of Italian sweet sausage here in Nashville. In a pinch he will go and get some Premio (Hawthorne….) for some of his dishes, but we both agree there has got to be better than that.

    cheers,

    joisy mike

  4. Hey Amy– Got the link from Gil off Facebook when I announced in my status my intent to make bread pudding. I totally bastardized your basic recipe– I had a stale baguette to make use of, and it was an odd volume so I had to adjust the wet. Also? Fresh blueberries and blackberries instead of frozen, and no lemon zest. Added extra cardamom (mmmmm…..) and threw a fistful of sugar on the top. Was also super generous with the bourbon. Know what? Still awesome. FANTASTIC recipe– so simple and flexible. I’m going to play with it some more, and will definitely try your savory recipe next weekend. The baguette made for a very solid pudding, but since I let it soak a looong time (plus, see above re: generous with the bourbon) it was all good. Also? Your photographs make me drool. Love your site! –alice

  10. I was editing some audio and took a break to look at some images of mirliton. I stumbled across your page discussing Chef John Folse’s pickled mirliton recipe.

The coincidence is that the audio I am editing is Chef John Folse’s radio show, Stirrin It Up.

The theme of the show I am editing is . . . mirliton.

This show will air first on September 10, 2011. It can be heard on the air, or by streaming audio from some of the broadcast stations, or you can download the podcast that will be available a few days later.

We would also like to invite you to join us on Facebook at facebook.com/stirrinitupradio. We invite comments and questions from our friends, and often include a “facebook tip of the week” in which Chef John will answer a question from facebook.

    Come join us!

  12. Hi Amy! Just found your site and already have several recipes on the list to try this week! Beautiful stuff…I especially loved how you stumbled upon your love of photography…very inspiring! My hubby hails from your neck of the woods (Ramsey, NJ) and I lived in Northern Jersey for several years…even graduated from Montclair State! Don’t meet many Bergen County folks anymore! Thanks for the good stuff and the inspiration!
