Sure, our guys aren’t the most discriminating when it comes to food — Ru will happily chomp on anything treat-adjacent, including fingers — but sometimes I like to spoil them, anyway.
recipe after the jump
Peanut Butter Bones adapted slightly from commenter ChzPlz at Apartment Therapy: The Kitchen
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup chopped peanuts
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup water
2 tablespoons honey
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl combine flour, oatmeal, peanuts and baking powder. Add peanut butter, water, honey and stir until you have stiff dough. Use your hands, if you need to, at the end in order to blend it well, or use a KitchenAid stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment.
On a lightly floured surface, roll or pat out the dough about 1/2 inch thick and cut into 1 inch x 3 inch strips or use a cookie cutter to make fun shapes. These treats don’t spread in the oven so use any shape you like, just know that the peanut chunks might be a little tough to cut around.
Bake for 20 minutes, until golden. Cool on the pan.
Store in a tightly sealed container. Freeze treats if you won’t be giving them away soon.
Note: I’m planning to open an Etsy store in the new year to sell prints, cards, etc. Tell me: would you like to see these Advent Calendar posts collected into a set of cards with the recipes? Anything else your hearts desire?
