This recipe comes courtesy of an old friend in St. Louis. She brought the recipe home from school in second grade and it quickly became a tradition in her family. Try it — you may just start a new tradition of your own.

2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup butter
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
3/4 cup orange juice
1 1/2 cups golden raisins
1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries, chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add egg, orange peel, and orange juice. Stir until mixture is moist. Fold in raisins and cranberries.

Spoon into greased loaf pan. Bake for 50-70 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack.
