The former editor of New Orleans\u2019 <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bestofneworleans.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gambit Weekly<\/a><\/i>, Michael\u2019s eleven-part Katrina series \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altweeklies.com\/aan\/submerged-an-evacuees-journal-getting-out\/Story?oid=149966\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Submerged<\/a>\u201d was published in alternative newsweeklies across the country. He has appeared on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pri.org\/programs\/point\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">To the Point<\/a>\u201d and was a frequent guest on Philip Adams\u2019 \u201cLate Night Live,\u201d and can be seen in the documentaries <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dearmrwatterson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dear Mr. Watterson<\/a><\/i> and <i><a href=\"http:\/\/zydecocrossroads.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zydeco Crossroads<\/a><\/i>. Michael is represented by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidblackagency.com\/about\/gary-morris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gary Morris at the David Black Agency<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When not writing, Michael coaches scholastic chess and organizes the annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nolachessfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New Orleans Chess Fest<\/a>, and is a founding member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laissezboys.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laissez Boys Social Aide and Leisure Club<\/a>, a Mardi Gras parading organization.
