Keene<\/a> was born in St. Louis in 1965. He graduated from the St. Louis Priory School, Harvard College, and New York University, where he was a <em>New York Times<\/em> Fellow. In 1989, Mr. Keene joined the Dark Room Writers Collective, and is a Graduate Fellow of the Cave Canem Writers Workshops. He is the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/4669\/9780811213042\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Annotations<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/4669\/9780811225526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Counternarratives<\/a>, both published by New Directions, as well as several other works, including the poetry collection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakknoll.com\/pages\/books\/103159\/john-keene\/seismosis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seismosis<\/a>, with artist Christopher Stackhouse, and a translation of Brazilian author Hilda Hilst\u2019s novel <a href=\"https:\/\/bookshop.org\/a\/4669\/9781937658151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Letters from a Seducer<\/a>. He is the recipient of many awards and fellowships\u2014including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macfound.org\/fellows\/1016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MacArthur &#8216;Genius&#8217; Award<\/a>, the Windham-Campbell Prize, and the Whiting Foundation Prize for fiction.
