How&#8217;s today&#8217;s Arts+ section looking?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Victor Davis Hanson reviews Martin Creveld&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/arts\/why-we-fight-martin-van-crevelds-the-culture\/86443\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Culture of War<\/a>: &#8220;he presents himself as a Thucydidean&#8221;! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/arts\/why-we-fight-martin-van-crevelds-the-culture\/86443\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Steven Nadler reviews Joel Kramer&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/arts\/the-great-rambam-joel-kramers-maimonides\/86437\/\" target=\"_blank\">biography on the Great RaMBaM<\/a>: &#8220;From Moses to Moses, there was no one like Moses&#8221;!<\/li>\n<li>Eric Ormsby reviews Fernandoz Baez&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/arts\/book-burning-and-other-bibliocausts\/86438\/\" target=\"_blank\">history of the destruction of books<\/a>: &#8220;Unlike Borges, who delighted in inventing titles which don&#8217;t exist (but should), Mr. B\u00c3\u00a1ez describes books and whole libraries that fell prey not only to fire and flood but to sheer human malevolence&#8221;. . .<\/li>\n<li>And speaking of Borges, Alberto Manguel reviews William Goldbloom Bloch&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/arts\/a-universe-of-books-borgess-library-of-babel\/86435\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Unimaginable Mathematics of Borges&#8217; Library of Babel<\/a>: &#8220;Mr. Bloch notes in his preface that the ideal reader of his book is Umberto Eco&#8221;!?<\/li>\n<li>Paula Deitz writes up the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/travel\/a-visit-to-the-venice-biennale-of-architecture\/86449\/\" target=\"_blank\">Venice Biennale of Architecture<\/a>: &#8220;Two different exhibitions featured walls of refrigerators as stand-ins for enclosed spaces&#8221;?!<\/li>\n<li>In a rare disappointment for me, it turned out that Valerie Gladstone&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nysun.com\/travel\/bacon-and-rothko-in-london\/86451\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bacon and Rothko in London<\/a> does not actually involve pork products: &#8220;&#8216;What I find amazing,&#8217; Mr. Gale said, &#8216;is that even after all the preparation for this exhibition, looking at Bacon&#8217;s paintings still makes my spine tingle. I never stop being overwhelmed.'&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And a bonus! This weekend, the New York Times wrote about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/09\/22\/nyregion\/22sun.html\" target=\"_blank\">the Sun&#8217;s plight<\/a>! While it can&#8217;t be bothered to mention the Sun&#8217;s top-notch arts coverage until a passing ref. 6 paragraphs from the end &#8212; presumably because it puts the Times&#8217; coverage to shame &#8212; it does manage to include a quote from a writer at <em>The Nation<\/em> who called the Sun \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a paper that functions as a journalistic SWAT team against individuals and institutions seen as hostile to Israel and Jews&#8221;! Awesome!
