Also, after reading <a href=\"http:\/\/comicscomicsmag.com\/2010\/10\/class-with-frank-part-2.html\" target=\"_blank\">this great Frank Santoro post<\/a>, I reread Chester Brown&#8217;s <em>Helder<\/em> and <em>Showing Helder<\/em>. And I was feeling nostalgic for feeling nostalgic for superheroes, so I reread Grant Morrison &#038; Frank Quietly&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbelith.com\/faq\/index.php\/Flex_Mentallo\" target=\"_blank\">Flex Mentallo mini-series<\/a>. The &#8217;90s sure were a funny time.<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m listening to:<\/em> A bunch of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anthonyhamilton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Anthony Hamilton<\/a> records. Whoa, nelly.<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m watching:<\/em> Outside of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0305206\/\" target=\"_blank\">American Splendor<\/a> (on Halloween, because we didn&#8217;t get around to watching it on Harvey Pekar&#8217;s birthday earlier in October) not much of anything, besides some World Series games.<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m drinking:<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewhiskyexchange.com\/P-11120.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Fifty Pounds gin<\/a> &#038; Q-Tonic.<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m eating:<\/em> A peach and blueberry pie. It&#8217;s the last one of Farmers&#8217; Market season, which saddens me. It was my Saturday tradition (formerly our Saturday tradition, but <a href=\"http:\/\/chimeraobscura.com\/mi\" target=\"_blank\">Little Ms. Gluten-Free Diet<\/a> can&#8217;t participate anymore), picking up a 5&#8243; fruit pie from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theorchardsofconcklin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Concklin Orchards stand<\/a> for weekend devourification. The dogs will be sad\/confused, too, since they somehow figured out the 7-day schedule and knew that Saturday mornings were when they get to promenade around the market and get love and affection from unsuspecting locals.<\/p>\n<p><em>What Rufus &amp; Otis are up to:<\/em> They enjoyed some longish mid-week walks, courtesy of some unseasonably lovely weather. And when things started to cool down again, they still managed to get in another 5-mile grey-hike! <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chimeraobscura\/sets\/72157625155661121\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pix here<\/a>! <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/?t=p&#038;z=15&#038;ll=41.197792053222656,-74.3978271484375&#038;q=http:\/\/api.motionxlive.com\/motionx-remote\/api\/gps\/host\/adfdff2a-f727-41c3-b57c-a075980b6e9c\">Spex here<\/a>! And then, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/minimallyinvasivenj\/sets\/72157625282924600\/\" target=\"_blank\">they got dressed up for Halloween<\/a> . . .<\/p>\n<p><em>Where I&#8217;m going:<\/em> Back to Ithaca, even if I didn&#8217;t think too much of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldhum.com\/features\/speakers-corner\/journey-to-ithaca-20100730\/\" target=\"_blank\">this essay<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m happy about:<\/em> Getting that first podcast out of the way. Also, discovering that Tyler Brule of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monocle.com\" target=\"_blank\">Monocle<\/a> has many of the same poor mannerisms that I do when conducting interviews\/conversations: too many &#8220;um&#8221;s and &#8220;you know&#8221;s and a tendency to speak in full \u00e2\u20ac\u201d and multiple \u00e2\u20ac\u201d paragraphs.<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m sad about:<\/em> That he&#8217;s much more successful than I&#8217;ll ever be. Also, that whole peach and blueberry pie thing.<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m worried about:<\/em> Writing two articles in the next two days to wrap up my Nov\/Dec issue. So, um, don&#8217;t call, okay?<\/p>\n<p><em>What I&#8217;m pondering:<\/em> Whether to consider the <em>Odyssey<\/em> in terms of a whole with the <em>Iliad<\/em>, or whether to contemplate the Iliad on its own, without considering Odysseus as an alternative to Achilles as Best of the Achaians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What I&#8217;m reading: The Odyssey.
