As Ms. Raboteau discovered in the travels chronicled in her book \u2014 encompassing Israel, Jamaica, Ethiopia, Ghana and America\u2019s deep south \u2014 there are a lot of ideas about who\u2019s black and what blackness means.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;As my husband told me, &#8216;You can&#8217;t valorize the oppressed just because they were oppressed.
