Over dinner, Amy &#038; I caught the broadcast, which included a profile of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.senate.ca.gov\/ftp\/SEN\/cngplan\/CD29.HTM\" target=\"_blank\">Congressional District 29<\/a>. As part of the segment, Colbert interviewed <a href=\"http:\/\/schiff.house.gov\/HoR\/ca29\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rep. Adam Schiff<\/a>, which included this priceless exchange:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schiff:<\/strong> Well, it was the most expensive race for the House in history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colbert:<\/strong> How much did it cost?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schiff:<\/strong> We raised about $4.3 million and there were about $5 million in independent expenditures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colbert:<\/strong> After you were elected, did you pass legislation banning the very sort of unregulated donations that helped you win?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schiff:<\/strong> Yes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Colbert:<\/strong> Isn&#8217;t that the political equivalent of . . . sleeping with a prostitute and then strangling her to hide your shame?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schiff:<\/strong> I wouldn&#8217;t want to say that.<\/p>\n<p>Colbert spent the rest of the interview trying to get Rep.
