Ill-starred

Back in 2002, I got a fortune-cookie that read, “A reunion with an old acquaintance will turn out disastrous.” I saved it because it was so pessimistic. Also, I appreciated the fact that it was a fortune, and not an aphorism. A week or so later, I hooked up with an ex-girlfriend I hadn’t seen in almost a decade, and it didn’t turn out so bad.

According to the NYTimes, bad fortunes are making their way through the rotation. My official VM fortune to you: Avoid Chinese food for a while.

Adventures in Shopping

Every few months, Amy & I drive up to a big-ol’ outdoor outlet mall in Harriman, NY. She’s a more serious shopper than I am, but that doesn’t mean I’m not capable of hunting down some bargains. For example, here’s one I found at the Williams-Sonoma outlet:

Whatta bargain!

Over at the Armani store, you can get a severe case of sticker shock ($700 for a t-shirt?!), but at the DK store, you can get label shock:

And sometimes, the products are just plain weird:

Cheese-rapist!

In love with the sound of my voice?

I know I am! And that’s why you should listen to my recent radio interview on The Adam Taxin Show! I come on around the 15:30 mark. The link is a RealAudio file, so you’ll need Real player to listen (if the player doesn’t automatically launch, you may need to run it yourself and paste in the contents of the link). If I can get an archived MP3 off of A-Tax, I’ll post that here!

Oh, the interview’s about 9/11, so it’s depressing as all get out. Also, I go off on some seriously mystico-symbolic tangents, which will amaze you in their uselessness.

And note that the music leading into said 9/11 interview is the cruelly chosen “Catch Me Now I’m Falling” by Pretty Poison.

Commemorate, Celebrate

Today’s the 6th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It’s also the eve of the Jewish new year. I don’t know how you mark either of these events, dear reader. I’m going to listen to one of my favorite sad records today, and maybe I’ll get myself to shul tomorrow night.

Update: on the way home from work tonight, I stopped at the library to drop off a CD. Then I stopped to smell the flowers.
