My condolences to the family of Heath Ledger, who OD’d earlier today. When Amy first IM’d me about Ledger’s death just before I left the office, I wrote back, “Drugs? Car Accident?” When she said it was the former, I replied, “Retard.”
Once I got home, I checked out the story and it now looks like he committed suicide (subject to change). That got me wondering what’s worse:
- the father of a two-year-old child deliberately OD’s, killing himself,
- the father of a two-year-old child is so into getting high that he accidentally OD’s, killing himself.
I mean, the result is the same, right? Wealthy, good-looking actor leaves his daughter without a dad.
Tell me whatcha think.
AMBIEN? Ambien? Really?
It looks like I missed the third option:
3. the father of a two-year-old child is so stupid that he accidentally ingests a fatal combo of anti-anxiety and sleeping pills, killing himself
Good thing I put that “subject to change” notice in my initial post!
There is a fourth option, which has nothing to do with pills or stupidity – he could have had an undiagnosed aneurysm or cardiac problem which suddenly manifested itself. It happened to a college classmate’s of A. Tax who I befriended a year and a half ago. Last February, this man in his mid-30’s, apparently in the pink of health, with two young sons, a wife and a successful career as a lawyer went to bed one night and never got up again. I believe the autopsy revealed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which often has no symptoms.
Regardless, the outcome is the same – a little girl has no father.
More pathetic and sad is Brad Renfro’s OD. Everyone should have seen that coming.
Mayhap! But I’m going with something from #s 1, 2 or 3. The latest news had something about a rolled-up $20 being found in his room. And it mentioned that the apt. was renting for $23,000/month. If I had to pay that much, I bet I’d have trouble sleeping, too.
