Just had a strange realization, while pouring myself some water just now: since I quit drinking soda two months ago, and stopped drinking juices a few years back (Atkins holdover; sue me), it occurs to me now that the only 3 things I drink are water, gin and black coffee.
I have milk in the morning with my cereal (can we get a ruling on that?), and a glass of wine with Amy once a week or so, but I think I’ve sheared down to some sorta essence of what liquids I actually consume.
So my question to you, dear readers, is: Is this weird? That is, do you have more variety in the things you drink, or do you also only consume a couple of types of fluids? (no sexytime responses, please)
Ruling: You don’t drink milk. I am a lifelong, vehement nondrinker of milk, but I do have it on my cereal. (I also have a bottle of chocolate Nesquik every year or so, which also doesn’t count.)
I’ve been trying to find some soda-like substitute, since soda has suddenly begun making me sick (and write alliterative sentences). I like the grapefruit Juice Squeeze from Crystal Geyser.
I have one cup of coffee with tons of half and half each morning. Other than that, I stick to water. I’ll occasionally have most of a beer, a glass of wine, or a cocktail, but my heart just isn’t in it.
I’m with you, Jessâ€â€milk is fine as an accompaniment, but never as the focus.
Anyone else flashing to Ron Burgundy? “It’s so hot! Milk was a Bad Choice!”
I’m much more open minded/fickle than Gil when it comes to beverages, though. I’m happy with coffee, tea, and seltzer on a daily basis, with the occasional diet soda supplement; it’s an efficient caffeine-delivery system in an emergency. But adult beverages are where I spread my wings: martinis in summer or during the initial rounds of American Idol, red or rosé wines, and the amber drinks (manhattans and sazeracs) this time of year all get love from me.
Not bad for a Mennonite, huh?
