Phil Rizzuto died last night at the age of 89. As a kid in 1970s, I listened to his quirky broadcasts of Yankees games all the time. He also did memorable pitches for The Money Store, which was probably a mob front.

Phil Mushnick had a nice column today about Rizzuto’s near-constant mistakes and his charming self-effacedness: “What, White? He caught that ball? Ho-lee cow, I thought it got past him. What was I watching?”
