At my day job, where I edit a magazine about pharmaceutical outsourcing, I always tell contributing writers, “Please do not write, ‘Communication is key to a win-win relationship.'” (no, really.) I’ve actually read two books by Cormac McCarthy (eh), so he doesn’t qualify as an 0-fer. This short interview with Harold Bloom piques my interest in McCarthy’s Blood Meridian. Maybe I’ll try that this summer.

  1. Doesn’t that fall outside of your 5-year-ban on contemporary lit, Zeke?

The most contemporary things I PLAN on reading this summer are Richard Stark’s “The Hunter” and “To Kill a Mockingbird,” which’ll be the subject of a long-ass summer post, I’m sure. Maybe I’ll give that McCarthy a shot.

  2. I plan to spend this summer drinking high-quality gin until I forget ever having read To Kill A Mockingbird.
