This isn’t a true 0-fer this week, but it does point out my literary failings, which is what I’m all about.
Last night, it occurred to me that the number of ballparks I’ve visited may be greater than the number of Shakespeare plays I’ve read. I checked out both lists this morning and I’m glad to report that’s not the case:
Ballparks I’ve attended:
- Anaheim
- Baltimore
- Boston
- New York Yankees (old)
- New York Mets (old)
- Oakland
- Philadelphia (old)
- San Diego
- Seattle
- Toronto
Shakespeare plays I’ve read:
- As You Like It
- Henry IV, 1
- Henry IV, 2
- Henry V
- Hamlet
- King Lear
- Macbeth
- The Merchant of Venice
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream
- Much Ado About Nothing
- Othello
- Richard II
- Romeo and Juliet
- The Tempest
- Winter’s Tale
I’ll probably see a Braves game when I’m in Atlanta next month, but I also just began reading Antony and Cleopatra, so the deficit will remain at 5. Unless I go on a real Shakespeare binge (which is possible) or get fired and decide to go on that “8 parks in 10 days” tour of midwestern ballparks I plotted out back in 2002 (which is very unlikely (I hope)).
Howzabout you, dear readers? Any of you read fewer plays of Shakespeare than the number of MLB ballparks you’ve visited?
Bonus! NBA arenas I’ve attended:
- Philadelphia
- Chicago
- New Jersey
- Toronto
- New York
- Washington (old)
- New Orleans
- Dallas
I’ve got Shakespeare over ballparks 14-4, which means I have a terrible hot dog deficiency and probable eye strain. I could start to remedy that this summer, but all of the ballparks I’ve visited no longer exist; does my count start back at zero?
Which Chicago basketball stadium?
Chicago was the new one; I hit a game there while I was in town for the BIO show two years ago. Philadelphia was also the new arena, not the Spectrum. On the off-chance that the Atlanta Hawks make a deep playoff run, I’ll try to see them while I’m there next month. I have a feeling tickets won’t be too hard to find.
To the best of my recollection I’ve only been to one NHL game, and that was in Hartford.
